Open Korea Lab

Bridging research, policy, and lived experience to build effective government solutions for a more open and inclusive Korea.

  • Welcome to Open Korea Lab, the first independent non-profit policy research institute in South Korea dedicated to advancing effective, evidence-based government policies that support international families and the growing foreign resident community. As South Korea faces one of the world’s most acute demographic challenges—marked by declining birthrates and an aging population—foreign residents have emerged as an increasingly vital part of the nation’s social and economic fabric. In recent years, the number of foreigners living in Korea has reached historic highs, with over 2.7 million long-term residents accounting for more than 5% of the population and contributing significantly to the workforce, education sector, and multicultural communities nationwide. With these demographic shifts shaping Korea’s future, Open Korea Lab conducts rigorous research, publishes data-driven insights, and collaborates with policymakers, civil society, and international stakeholders to ensure that public policy promotes inclusion, equity, and shared prosperity for all who call Korea home.
